This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody or release, free a person, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the office that holds the record.
Choose the Right Record Path
Start with the home page for a released person or Newton County release record. Questions about parole, probation, recent releases, projected dates, or notifications belong with the agency responsible for that system.
- Use Post-Release Supervision for parole or county probation routes.
- Check 24-Hour Releases when looking for a recent local release, noting that Newton publishes no verified feed.
- Use Release Date Lookup or VINE Inmate Check for dates and alerts.
- Choose a facility page for Newton, Jasper, Angelina, or Beauregard Parish custody.
- Use TDCJ for a sentenced state prisoner, BOP for federal custody, and ICE for immigration detention.
Newton Sheriff and Jail
Sheriff Colton Havard’s office is the first contact for Newton County arrest authority and local custody. The Sheriff is at 110 E. Court Street, Newton, TX 75966; phone 409-379-3636; fax 409-379-3071; email newtoncountysheriff@co.newton.tx.us. The official page does not publish office hours. Newton Correctional Services lists 409-379-3000 and fax 409-379-3011.
Written Public Information Requests
Newton County centralizes written Texas Public Information Act requests through the Criminal District Attorney’s Civil Division. Describe the existing booking, release, transfer, or photo record, name the department that maintains it, and include requester contact information.
- Email: PIA@co.newton.tx.us
- Mail: Newton County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Attn: Civil Division, P.O. Drawer 36, Newton, TX 75966
- Hand delivery: Newton County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Attn: Civil Division, 104 W. Court Street, Newton, TX 75966
This route also supports a correction request. Identify the disputed booking or release field and ask for the record beneath it. A phone call may locate the custodian, but it does not replace a written request.
Newton County Court Records
The County Clerk is at 115 Court Street and can be reached at 409-379-5341. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Because research space is limited, the Clerk asks visitors to call for an appointment. The office also links to Texas Online Records, but a portal error does not show that a case is absent.
For felony and district matters, contact the District Clerk at 110 Court Street, second floor, Newton, TX 75966; 409-379-3951; nwindham@co.newton.tx.us.

Federal and Immigration Questions
Use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator for federal custody. ICE’s Detention Reporting and Information Line is 888-351-4024, Monday through Friday except holidays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. A handoff from a Newton jail to ICE is a transfer of custody, not a community release.
